Asia’s richest businessman Mukesh Ambani has heaped praises on Home Minister Amit Shah by calling him the new iron man of India. Speaking at a convocation ceremony of Pandit Deendayal Petroleum University in Gandhinagar, Ambani also said that Shah was a ‘true karmyogi (workaholic saint).’
“Amit bhai, you are a true karmayogi, you are truly Iron Man of our country. Gujarat, and now India, is blessed to have a leader like you,” Ambani was quoted by news agency IANS.
India’s first home minister Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, who was also Gujarat. Although Patel was died as a Congress leader, there have been concerted attempts by the BJP under Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Shah to appropriate his legacy.
Ambani did not stop here. He told the audience that India was in safe hands now that Modi and Shah were at the helm of affairs. He said, “Never lower the barrier of your ambitions. Never be hesitant to dream big. Ever be hopeful that India of tomorrow will create ample opportunities to fulfill your ambitions and dreams.”
Shah, who won this year’s Lok Sabha polls from Gandhinagar, said his government had been able to turn Indian economy into the ‘fastest-growing economy.’
Ambani also praised Modi and said that whenever he visited his home state Gujarat, his sense of pride increased manifold. “Gujarat, its achievements, and its institutions have become benchmarks of excellence for the rest of the nation,” The Week quoted the billionaire businessman as saying.
Critics have often targeted Mukesh Ambani and his younger brother Anil of being close to the BJP. They’ve pointed to the fact that most business advisors Mukesh Ambani including those occupying top positions in the Reliance Industries Limited are the fierce supporters of the RSS as they often share their pro-Hindutva views on Twitter.
